More New Photos

Haven't started photographing people yet - still working up the nerve. Here's more photos from my new Westside series.

This building's exterior was constructed out of styrofoam. Bizarre building.

Love the golden light and blue sky in this one.

I don't know what the heck these metal structures are - are they silos? If you know, leave me a comment!

This wild prairie flower is called quinine - I learned that at the Nature Museum! :)

Nikki taking some photos. This was before we got chased away by a security guard.

Hi Lily,

It's good to see you experimenting and getting out of your comfort zone a little. As of now, these pictures seem detached and cold, but I know that this is a result of just getting this project off of the ground. It'll be interesting to see what happens as you continue to photograph in the area and get to know people. Especially since others (i.e. D'Amato) have spent time photographing out there. As a group, they make the West side look desolate and decayed. Why the heck do you live there...?

Ha! Yeah, the westside is very desolate and decayed, but its also really rich in its history and culture. (Plus it is super affordable and close to everything, so that's why I live here). The industrial areas and business districts around here have been hit really hard not only by changing times, but also the economy. I see a lot of diversity and a lot of struggle, and it seems to be overlooked and/or ignored, so why not photograph it?

Thanks again for your comments and insight.
