Hi Lily,
Sorry that I missed the opening, but I stopped in the other day to see the show. Your work and Sarah's work both look nice. I'm sure that it feels good to exhibit newer work.
I enjoyed other works in the show, especially the paintings by Gay Riseborough.
On a technical sidenote: I noticed on some of your images, like the one of the woman in the apron, that there is an odd plane of focus. Her feet and legs are out-of-focus, while the top half is sharp and clean. Is that on purpose? If not, then perhaps the front standard of the camera wasn't completely parallel to the subject. I didn't notice this when you showed the proofs last winter, but it's evident on the larger exhibition print.
Hi Bill,
Thanks for the comments. Yeah I was aware of the focus - I noticed it right away in my scans. This effect is partly due to my ineptitude and the fact that it had been about 4 or 5 years since I used a 4x5 camera, and also because I was trying to hurry and be as speedy as possible with my subjects. I'll just have to work more slowly, and double check the focus of the entire figure on the ground glass.
I still like the images, but of course there is room for improvement!
